The 2025 International Day of Women and Girls in Science marks its 10th anniversary. As UNESCO emphasizes, science in the 21st century is dynamic, collaborative, and diverse, serving as a powerful tool to address global challenges beyond the laboratory. This year’s theme is ‘Unpacking STEM careers: Her Voice in Science.’

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is celebrated every February 11. The United Nations observes this day to promote equal access and participation of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.

On March 14, 2011, during its 55th session, the Commission on the Status of Women approved a report with agreed conclusions regarding the involvement of women and girls in education, training, and science and technology.

The report emphasized promoting equal opportunities for women in securing full employment and fair working conditions.

On December 20, 2013, the General Assembly passed a resolution: The resolution acknowledged that equal access and participation of women and girls in these fields is crucial for advancing gender equality and empowerment.

According to the United Nations, gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls will significantly contribute to the world’s economic development.

It will also drive progress across all the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
