Close to 4,000 women members of 300 self-help groups across Orissa are on a mission to stitch 30 lakh Indian flags to support the Centre’s HarGharTiranga campaign to celebrate the 75th year of India’s independence.
Women from the SHGs have already dispatched them to different corners of the state and are working towards completing the target by Aug 10.
Having assessed the demand, Mission Shakti SHGs come forward to stitch approximately 30 lakh flags. Although it is high number to achieve yet the tailoring unit ecosystem established in the state embarked on this journey, stated a senior officer in the Mission Shakti department.
The SHGs had procured requisite quantities of raw materials from local markets in Chattisgarh and West Bengal in order to make the timely delivery of the flags. On an average, the SHGs are making around 3.5 to 4 lakh flags per day.
“For us it is not a job, it is a matter of pride. We are taking extra care while stitching the flags so that there will not be a violation of the flag code and no disrespect would be shown to the tricolor. We are feeling proud that the tricolor we are stitching will be hoisted at each and every home from Aug 13 to Aug 15,” said Pramila Barik, member of an SHG group to a national daily.
