The second women's T20 International between India and South Africa was abandoned due to heavy rain. At the end, the visiting team scored 177 for six in their innings.
After this outcome, the South African team has maintained its 1-0 lead in the three-match series. India will now have to defeat South Africa in the third and final match which will be played in Chennai on July 9.
The beginning of the match was pushed back by 15 minutes owing to rain. The downpour played a continuous spoilsport on three occasions during South Africa's innings.
But the downpour became heavier during the innings break, which caused a delay in resuming the game after the break. The continuous rain led to number of overs being reduced. As the cut off time of 10:13 pm drew closer, it was evident that even a five over match would not be possible. Ultimately the umpires took the call to declare an end and thus, the match was abandoned.
In the first innings played by the South African team, batter Tazmin Brits scored a half century fifty, helping her team put up a challenging 177 for six on the scoreboard. Other than Britt’s 52 runs off 39 balls was supplemented by Anneke Bosch scoring 40 off 32 balls. Opening batter, Laura Wolvaardt put up 22 runs off 12 balls. Marizanne Kapp scored 20 off 14 balls.
The Indian bowlers, led by spinners, showcased exceptional performances and the South African batters had a tough time racking up the score. Vastrakar and Deepti took two wickets each for the Indian side.
