A representative for the state administration claimed that this is the first time bamboo rakhis are being produced there.

For the occasion of Rakshabandhan, which will be observed in the second week of August, the Gorakhpur Forest Department has chosen to commission women to make these bamboo rakhis, each of which would cost one lakh rupees.

This is a goal that combines the phrase "vocal for local" with the empowerment of women's economics.

A government official stated that these rakhis are being created at the CFC's women self-help group (SHG) in Laxmipur, Campierganj, and that the environmentally friendly bamboo rakhis would serve as a foundation for economic independence for many women.

“The idea for innovation crossed the mind as the chief minister Yogi Adityanath often inspires us for trying out new things and we thought that eco-friendly bamboo rakhis could be made and if it works, then it will also help in augmenting the income of women and people too would get an eco-friendly rakhis option. So, we engaged in the experiment at the Bamboo Mission’s CFC. We discussed it with women SHG associated with the CFC. They agreed to translate the idea into a reality. We provided them with the raw material and now bamboo rakhis are being made,” The divisional forest officer (DFO), Gorakhpur, Vikas Yadav, said in the government statement.

The National Bamboo Mission created the CFC in Laxmipur in Campierganj, where it teaches women how to make bamboo toys, gifts, jewellery, etc.

According to the spokesman, the SHG's ladies created a dozen designs for mass manufacturing as soon as they decided to take on the project.

The National Bamboo Mission's stall at the Gorakhpur Zoo will have the bamboo rakhis on display for purchase. The rakhis will be on display and available for purchase on July 29 at the World Tiger Day celebration at Yogiraj Baba Gambirnath theatre. In order to increase demand for them for the next year, these rakhis will continue to be on display at the Gorakhpur Zoo after Rakshabandhan.
