India's pre-owned car market is witnessing significant transformation, led by increasing digital penetration, increasing women buyers, and rising demand for automatic and high-end cars, as per Spinny's Q1 2025 report. The report noted that 77 percent of all transactions in January-March 2025 were done online, indicating a robust and consistent move towards online car purchases.

Financing remains central to the action, with 57 percent of vehicles bought through loans—largely by customers in the 25-to-30 age group. Jaipur was at the forefront of the trend, with 60% of transactions involving financing.

Women customers accounted for 28 percent of sales of used vehicles during Q1 2025, up from 26 percent in 2024 and even touching 30 percent in the month of March alone. Kochi saw the maximum percentage of women customers, followed by Coimbatore with the highest loan adoption by women at 27 percent. Automatic transmission hatchbacks were the best-selling model among women, while compact SUVs also witnessed growth in interest.

The report also suggested an increasing trend for automatic vehicles, which currently account for 29 percent of all used cars sold—a percentage increase from last year's 24 percent. The most popular cars are still the compact SUVs, with the likes of Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, and Hyundai Venue topping the charts.

Bestsellers were the Hyundai Grand i10, Renault Kwid, and Maruti Suzuki Swift, which replaced Baleno to take a place among Spinny's top three. In the premium segment, luxury car sales stood strong with luxury cars such as the Mercedes GLA, Jeep Compass, and BMW X1 being recorded in Spinny Max.

Pune led the sales of electric vehicles (EV), which represented 2% of Spinny's overall transactions. Although petrol vehicles remained the favorite at 84%, the report indicated a progressive but consistent transition towards more efficient and electric choices.

"Customers are increasingly choosing vehicles that suit their changing needs—whether it's upgrading for an expanding family or relocating to a new city. With electric and hybrid models becoming popular, there's something for everyone," said Niraj Singh, Founder & CEO of Spinny.

First-time customers accounted for 74 percent of Spinny's consumers, with the average age of buyers now being 32—identifying a young, aspirational audience. Occasion-based purchase too is gaining traction, with more than 700 vehicles sold on the opening day of Navratri 2025, a rise of 20 percent over last year.

Though digital decision-making is preferred by most buyers, 78 percent still go for in-person handovers at hubs and only 22 percent opt for home delivery—indicating that hands-on experience matters. Spinny also observed an increase in add-on services, with 20 percent of the buyers opting for zero-depreciation insurance and 30 percent opting for extended warranties.

Spinny was established in 2015 and currently has operations in 22 cities with 57 car hubs. Spinny provides a 200-point vehicle check, 5-day money-back guarantee, and 1-year after-sales warranty, making it a reliable, full-stack platform in India's used car market.
