With the rise of self-help groups in Kerala, the state has made significant progress in women's empowerment. Women's self-help groups make their presence felt in nearly every aspect of life, filling roles previously filled by the opposing sex.

This is the story of "Vanitha Selfie" in Kanjikkuzhy, a thriving community in Alappuzha. An event management organisation named "Vanitha Selfie" is run by a group of 140 women who handle everything from housecleaning to food production to security services.

For the past seven years, "Vanitha Selfie" has been on this invaluable service. The event management firm also creates various pickles and condiments in addition to producing food for catering at wedding celebrations and other gatherings.

Members of the group claim to be able to earn between 15,000 and 25,000 rupees every month. Notably, members of local bodies lead the all-women self-help group.
