Women's self-help groups in Telangana's Mahabubnagar district set a Guinness World Record by rolling 2.08 crore seed balls in ten days.
The women arranged the seed balls at a Mahabubnagar event to form the sentence "Two crore seed balls made and planted by SHG women transform Mahabubnagar into Hetero Green Belt."
Under the leadership of Telangana minister V. Srinivas Goud and senior officials, women from Palamuru Zilla Mahila Samakhya (PZMS), or the Mahabubnagar district's federation of women self-help groups, and the Mission for the Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEMPA), set the record.
The seed balls were planted with the help of drones at the KCR Urban Eco Park spread over 2,097 acres.
"The largest seed ball sentence was achieved by PZMS, Dr V. Srinivas Goud, S. Venkata Rao, IAS, DRDA, MEMPA and Hetero Group in Telangana, India on 12 July 2021," reads the Guinness World Records certificate.
The record was later dedicated to Green India Challenge and MP Joginipally Santhosh Kumar by the minister.
The event was organised by the minister in the presence of Santosh Kumar. They oversaw the Guinness World Record attempt from the Mahabubnagar Railway Auditorium.
Goud expressed gratitude to the District Collector, the Additional Collector, officers from PZMS, DRDA, MEPMA, SHG group women, Hereto Group members, and the Guinness World Records team.
Santosh Kumar thanked everyone who helped make this event a record-breaker. He thanked the minister for including him and his Green India Challenge initiative in the grand event.
The PZMS initiative to grow greenery and increase forest cover in the district was recognised by the International Wonder Book of Records last year.
The PZMS formed SHGs from more than 284 villages and prepared more than 1.14 crore seed balls in nine days, which they threw across open areas surrounding the state's forest regions both manually and via drones.
