Russian parliamentary leader Valentina Matviyenko is set to lead her country's delegation to the 9th G20 Parliamentary Speakers' Summit (P20) in New Delhi. The delegation will comprise key figures from the Russian Federation's parliamentary system.
It includes First Deputy Speaker Andrei Turchak, Deputy Speaker Konstantin Kosachev, and Tatyana Gigel, who is a member of the Federation Council Committee on Agricultural and Food Policy and Environmental Management. The visit program also outlines negotiations with representatives of the leadership of the Republic of India.
The theme of the 9th P20 Summit is "Parliaments for One Earth, One Family, One Future." Hosted by the Parliament of India under the broader framework of India's G20 Presidency, the event will see participation from the Speakers of Parliaments of G20 members and invitee countries. This summit will mark a significant milestone as the Pan-African Parliament joins the P20 Summit for the first time after the African Union's membership in the G20.
Thematic sessions during the summit will concentrate on four key subjects: the transformation of people's lives through public digital platforms, women-led development, the acceleration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and sustainable energy transition. These themes align with the global focus on achieving equitable and sustainable development while empowering women.
The Summit aims to foster international cooperation, and cultural exchanges, and strengthen diplomatic ties among nations. It will provide a platform for the deliberation of international challenges and strategies, leading to a joint statement. This statement will emphasize the importance of addressing these challenges while ensuring equity, inclusiveness, and peace in cooperation with G20 Governments.
Valentina Matviyenko's leadership of the Russian delegation underscores the growing role of women in shaping international discourse, especially in critical forums like the P20 Summit. The focus on women-led development and other themes aligns with the broader global commitment to gender equality and sustainable development. With participants from various countries, the summit serves as an essential platform for global parliamentary leaders to work together towards common goals and solutions for global challenges.
This collaborative approach is central to the mission of P20, emphasizing that parliaments play a crucial role in fostering cooperation and achieving a more sustainable and equitable future for all. The joint statement will symbolize the commitment of G20 Governments to address the world's pressing issues collaboratively and inclusively.
