Vadodara city to have Female Inspectors at Three Police Stations

Three female police inspectors (PI) were named incharges of three police stations under the Vadodara municipal police commissionerate's authority.
In a first, the city now has four female police inspectors in charge of an equal number of police stations.
Commissioner of Police Shamsher Singh issued an order transferring the PIs of four police stations and appointing three new female PIs in their place.
Three police inspectors on leave reserve at the Police Control Room, BB Patel, PG Tiwari, and HG Tuwar, were assigned to the Raopura, Gorwa, and Laxmipura police stations.
The Gorwa and Laxmipura police stations' inspectors were moved to the Traffic Department.
In addition, VK Desai, a police inspector from Harni police station, has been transferred to Karelibaug police station as station in-charge after PI VN Mahida was transferred to Leave Reserve in the police control room.
The transfers take place at a time when the city police had already disbanded local police stations' Detection-staff (D-staff) units and created Local Crime Branch (LCB) units in each of the four city zones. After charges that the Raopura police D-staff unit was attempting to hide bootleggers, the D-staff was disbanded.
Singh said, “the decision to appoint more women police inspectors to independently head the police stations in the city is to facilitate the environment for them to lead the force… There are doubts raised by male officers about their ability to handle some types of crime, but I have counselled the superior officers to change their notion and create a conducive environment for women to be heading police stations. Women officers are more sensitive and have more compassion and are seen to be more efficient.”
Singh had also recruited a female police inspector to lead the Bapod police station in October 2021.
