Uttarakhand's government has introduced a 33 per cent reservation for women in cooperative institutions, ending the monopoly of men. The move aims to increase female representation, empower women economically and socially, and create more opportunities for women in leadership positions, fostering inclusive growth and development.
In a meeting of the state cabinet in Dehradun by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the government announced this historic decision to ensure women's participation in 10 district cooperative banks, 670 multipurpose cooperative societies, and other top cooperative institutions in Uttarakhand. The decision, made on International Cooperative Day, is seen as a milestone in women's empowerment. Women will receive quotas in various cooperative organizations in Uttarakhand, including the State Cooperative Bank, State Cooperative Federation, Housing and Construction Cooperative Federation, Regional Co-operative Union, Consumer Co-operative Federation, and Silk Federation.
The Uttarakhand's policy ensures women's representation in decision-making processes and promotes inclusive growth. It also encourages women to take on leadership roles within the sector, fostering a more diverse governance structure. The Uttarakhand government is expected to support the policy through training and capacity-building programs. This policy reflects the state's commitment to gender equality and women's empowerment.
