U.S. Ambassador to India announces STEMM Fellowship Empowering Indian Women

U.S. Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti announced the 'Women in STEM Development and Medicine Fellowship (STEMM)' aligning with the International Education Week during the launch of Open Doors Report 2024. Part of the U.S.-India Alliance for Women's Economic Empowerment, the fellowship is spearheaded by the Gita-Klinsky India Institute at Johns Hopkins University in order to empower Indian women in STEMM fields through mentorship, research skill development, and global networks.
Ambassador Eric highlighted the importance of education, collaboration, and gender equity for women in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM) during the launch. He added that this Fellowship launch coinciding with International Education Week highlights the significance of this announcement. He mentions "Today marks the celebration of the shared belief that education is not confined by borders, and that collaboration between our countries and institutions is the key to solving global challenges."
To increase women's formal inclusion in the workforce, the U.S. Mission in India is offering support to U.S.-India education by collaborating with primary schools. The Open Doors Report 2024 mentions that India has become the top sender of international students to the United States with a 19 per cent increase from last year.
