The state government of Uttar Pradesh will offer vocational training to the needy women dwelling in roughly 13 shelter homes as part of a campaign to empower women in the state to become self-sufficient.
Manoj Rai, the director of women's welfare and child development, announced that the state government would offer skill training to the women based on their needs and those of the shelter homes' residents.
“There are about 725 women residing in 13 shelter homes established by the government. We have spoken to these women regarding their interest areas and based on the same, we will be providing them with skill training. Once they complete their training, they will also be linked with employment/ self-employment opportunities,” he said.
“The Yogi government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that every eligible person of Uttar Pradesh gets the benefits of the government’s schemes. And, through schemes like Mission Shakti, the government seeks to empower people, especially the females of the state,” said an official statement.
To provide skill training to females in need, the Department of Women and Child Development and the Skill Development Mission will host combined sessions.
In order to ensure that the trained women were hired locally, the department also connected with the GM DICs (General Manager- District Industries Centers) in this context to learn about the needs of the local market.
Among the districts where the shelter homes are situated are Gorakhpur, Mathura, Etawah, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Moradabad, Meerut, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Bareilly (two shelter homes), Kanpur Nagar, and Agra.
“The state government plans to set up new women’s shelters in three districts of UP,” according to the statement.
The Yogi Government's special action plan calls for the construction of three new women's shelters in the UP districts of Ghazipur, Moradabad, and Ghaziabad, each with a capacity for 100 beds, at a cost of Rs 20.21 crore. The construction of 50-bed children's homes will take place in Agra, while 100-bed state observation houses will be created in Rae Bareli, Kanpur, Mirzapur, and Chitrakoot.
