Union Minister Assesses Women & Child Welfare Programs in Dibrugarh

Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Annpurna Devi, visited Dibrugarh, Assam’s industrial hub, to evaluate the progress of women and child welfare programs in the region. During a press conference, she commended the significant advancements achieved under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

The Union Minister credited the growth in women’s participation in the labour force and she praised Assam’s progress under the "double engine government" model, led by PM Modi and CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

She commended Assam's efforts in preventing child marriage, strengthening maternal and child healthcare, and promoting women’s empowerment through skill development and entrepreneurship. Highlighted the significant rise in women’s participation in the labor force, from 23.3% in 2017-18 to 41.7% in 2023-24, driven by state-led employment programs.

Minister Annpurna emphasized the government’s investment in early childhood nutrition programs, including the Supplementary Nutrition Program (SNP) and Mission Poshan 2.0, to combat malnutrition. She stressed that ensuring children's health and well-being is a top priority, with these programmes laying a strong foundation for their future.

She revealed that the Union Budget 2024-25 allocated Rs 24.49 lakh crore for women's development, a significant increase from previous years. The ceiling for term loans under the Stand-Up India Scheme was raised to Rs 2 crore for first-time women entrepreneurs, promoting financial independence and entrepreneurship.

Highlighted the significant rise in women’s participation in the labor force, from 23.3% in 2017-18 to 41.7% in 2023-24, driven by state-led employment programs.

Railway Budget allocation increased from Rs 2,122 crore (2009-14) to Rs 10,440 crore (2025-26). 11,824 km of new railway tracks have been built in the northeast and eastern regions since 2024.

Under PM Modi's leadership, Assam has seen significant infrastructure growth, improving connectivity and creating opportunities.

The UM emphasized the important role women in Assam are playing in economic and social development.
