India is planning to increase female labor force participation in the Union Budget 2025, including policies supporting flexible work hours, improved infrastructure, and employment-linked incentives.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to include these measures in the February 1 budget. The goal is to achieve gender parity in the workforce, which could significantly boost India's GDP, currently at 41.7 per cent.
According to the Population Foundation of India, empowering women is a cornerstone of sustainable development. However, India's female labor force participation is below the global average, highlighting the need for men's involvement in health and gender equality initiatives for sustainable development. There is a need to align fiscal policies with India's demographic trends for long-term sustainable development. With over 253 million adolescents, India has the potential to drive economic growth if their health, education, and skill development needs are met.
The Union Budget 2025-26, set to be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1, 2025, aims to boost economic growth and address various sectors. It includes capital expenditure, defense allocation, agriculture, tax reforms, employment schemes, women empowerment, manufacturing, economic growth, gender parity, and fiscal stability. The budget aims to create a more inclusive and equitable economic environment, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship while addressing financial needs across income groups.
