Uber, a multinational transportation company that offers ride-hailing services, introduced a new feature allowing women drivers to accept ride requests only from female passengers aiming to improve safety and comfort during late-night rides and enhance the daily experiences of its Indian drivers. The feature also prompts drivers to take a selfie with their helmet, record audio if uncomfortable, and cash out earnings instantly. This is part of Uber's commitment to enhance driver safety and transparency in India.
The introduction of a new feature was rolled out based on driver feedback that has already enabled over 21,000 trips prioritizing safety and driving for longer hours for female drivers. Uber in India is promoting registrations on the e-Shram portal for gig and unorganized workers, offering cash incentives to the first 10,000 registered drivers, in support of the government's Code on Social Security (CoSS).
President of Uber India & South Asia, Prabhjeet Singh mentioned "We take pride in being the platform of choice for over a million drivers in India. Our North Star is to be the best platform in the world for flexible work and raise the bar further on the Uber experience. The updates announced today empower drivers, enhance their safety, and offer greater convenience with more transparency in their everyday operations."
