According to a report released by Sayfty, an NGO that enables women to combat abuse in cooperation with Twitter India, two Hyderabad women, Manju Latha Kalanidhi and Anusha Bharadwaj, are among the 17 Exemplary Changemakers of India. According to the source, Kalanidhi is a journalist and the initiator of the well-known humanitarian movement Rice Bucket Challenge, while Bhardwaj is the founder of Voice 4 Girls, an organisation dedicated to female empowerment. Sayfty is a social media platform and trust. Twitter India came together to honour outstanding changemakers and their use of Twitter to advocate for the #GlobalGoals and make a difference.
The goal of the partnership was to increase women's participation in discussions around the UN's SDGs (sustainable development goals), with a focus on inclusion and safety.
Sayfty Trust came across a variety of initiatives that these women have taken up in their quest to highlight women changemakers working on the SDGs. The fire, passion, and determination with which these women have worked to advance the SDGs is inspiring. They're doing anything from focusing on something as important as post-partum care to organising baby showers for endangered animals through community-led action. Each woman featured has a story of perseverance, whether it's pioneering the Indian #MeToo movement or providing millions of meals to the hungry during the shutdown. These women are pioneering the use of social media for social good in order to advance the SDGs.
We hope that the work of these 17 changemakers will not only encourage girls and women around the world to pursue their aspirations, but will also contribute to women's equality and leadership in meaningful ways, said Shagufta Kamran, Twitter India's Director of Public Policy. "Her two-word philosophy in life is to 'be useful,'" the paper said of Kalanidhi's work.
She enjoys using the online arena to make a difference in the world, whether it's through her social initiative, the Rice Bucket Challenge, her journalist profile, or her Whatsapp status.
Manju's contributions to the achievement of SDG 2 (No Hunger) have been exceptional. Her adventure with Twitter began in 2010-2011, initially as a journalist. She is the curator of the Rice Bucket Challenge.
Twitter, in her viewpoint, is dependable and simple to use, particularly for reaching out to individuals. Inspired by the renowned 2014 ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, Manju began the Rice Bucket Challenge on Twitter. When one of her Tweets was Retweeted 10,000 times in August 2014, she was able to use Twitter's power to reach out to individuals. Anusha Bharadwaj is the Founder and Director of SoCh for Social Change, as well as the Executive Director of its sister organisation, VOICE 4 Girls. Her job entails empowering young women to take control of their lives and become future leaders.
