Thiruvananthapuram Panchayat VP Presents Budget 2022-23 Highlighting Women Empowerment

Shailaja Beegum, vice-president of the Thiruvananthapuram panchayat, presented the budget for 2022-23, emphasising the importance of women's empowerment. Women of all generations, from anganwadi youngsters to the elderly, are expected to benefit from the 'gender budget.'

The budget anticipates revenue of Rs 850.92 crore, expenditure of Rs 844.12 crore, and a provision of Rs 6.8 crore for various women's empowerment programmes.

The budget also emphasised the importance of preserving nature and harnessing biodiversity's potential. She stated that the budget would include projects to carry out the current LDF government's 'Nava Kerala' objective.

Agriculture, industry, public works, social welfare, education, health, and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe sectors are also included in the budget. The budget also said that the previous governing body's model projects, such as the successful 'Patheyam' project, will be continued this year.

The district panchayat would receive Rs 2 crore from the Centre and the state government to establish a one-day home for women in Vattiyoorkavu. A training centre for women will be included within the facility.

To keep workplaces safe for women, special awareness committees will be formed.

In all panchayat wards, vigilance committees would be constituted. Vigilance committees at the panchayat level will be strengthened, and those who qualify will be recruited with an honorarium. All of the panchayats will collaborate on a plan.

A supervisory structure will be established under the District-Level Vigilance Committee, which will be overseen by the Women and Child District Officer and the Welfare Standing Committee.
