MoPSW observes International Day for Women in Maritime in New Delhi
International Day for Women in Maritime was observed on 18 May 2024 in New Delhi by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW), emphasizing the significance of women's contributions to maritime safety and security by female seafarers. The theme for this year was, "Safe Horizons: Women in Shaping the Future of Maritime Safety." 27 female seafarers who are pursuing various degrees in the maritime sector from different marine institutes along with certain industry experts were honored during the event for their commitment and exemplary contributions to the maritime industry.

Jaya Badiga, a Telugu native from Vijayawada, has become the first woman from Andhra to serve as a judge in the Sacramento County Superior Court in California. She completed her education at Osmania University and obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Santa Clara University. Jaya has over a decade of legal experience in private practice and has contributed to legal education as a faculty member.
Chennamma Squad Creates Self-Defence Awareness among Women
The Chennamma Squad serves as an ultimate response to Hubballi-Dharwad in order to build confidence among women as well as create self-defence awareness. Involving female police officers, Chennamma Squad holds a unit in district’s every police station while operating in 2 daily shifts i.e., morning and evening. The units shall be visiting all the vulnerable points where a large number of women are present.
Study reveals 11.5% Indian Women opt for Hysterectomy
A study found that for every 100 women over 45 years old in India, at least 11 have undergone hysterectomies. The most common causes were excessive bleeding, fibroids/cysts, and uterine prolapse. Socio-economic disparities were noted, with the highest prevalence in southern states. Family size and having two or more children were also significant factors.
