Justice Poonam A. Bamba appointed as Chairperson of PCA

Justice Poonam A. Bamba, the former Delhi High Court judge, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Police Complaints Authority (PCA). The appointment was announced by V.K. Saxena, Delhi LG on Sunday.

The Police Complaints Authority has been set up to address the public’s complaints against acts of serious misconduct by police personnel.

Justice Bamba’s name was supported as Chairperson of the PCA on the direction of the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court.

Girl Up India Leadership Summit: Future 2030 Concludes

The Girl Up India Leadership Summit: Future 2030 gathered over 850 young leaders from various sectors who are passionate about gender equality and fostering girl leadership for a more inclusive future.

The Leadership Summit, Girl Up's signature event which has been held globally every year since 2012 was organized in New Delhi this year where the young participants delivered meaningful discussions and viewpoints to achieve a gender-equal future. The event was attended by Shombi Sharp, UN Resident Coordinator in India, and Bollywood actress Dia Mirza as the Guest of honor. The closing address was presented by Miss Universe 2021, Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu.

SC Rejects 26-Week Pregnancy Termination Plea

The Supreme Court denied a woman's petition to abort her 26-week pregnancy on Monday, ruling in a case that pitted a woman's bodily autonomy against the rights of an unborn foetus.

The Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud mentioned that abortion was not permissible because there was no immediate threat to the woman and no foetal abnormality.

President Murmu to Present 69th National Film Awards

The 69th National Film Awards will take place today, 17 October 2023 in Delhi where the actors who have given blockbuster films in the past months will be felicitated. President of India, Draupadi Murmu will be presenting the Awards to the actors.

Alia Bhatt was spotted with her husband Ranbir in Delhi. The Rocky Aur Ranu Kii Prem Kahaani actress won the National Award for Best Actress this year for her film Gangubai Kathiawadi.

2nd All Female Store launched by Volkswagen India

Second, all women-operated stores were announced on Tuesday by Volkswagen Passenger Cars India. The second store was established in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Volkswagen India has collaborated with the Automark Group to launch this initiative. Last year, the first store was launched in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The aim of this initiative is to empower women leading to automotive workforce and to promote diversity and inclusivity in the workplace.

Mumbai Railway Police launches 'Sakhi in Khaki' Campaign

Mumbai tops the list of the most crowded city in India with an estimated 12 million population. It is a city where people from all around India and worldwide come either as tourists or as strugglers and employees. Due to the enormous crowd, women in Mumbai at times feel unsafe or face dangerous or harassing situations especially when traveling on a train. To fight back against the odds and ensure their safety, the Mumbai Railway Police have collaborated with the Coto application which is a 'Women only' social community app to launch a campaign called 'Sakhi in Khaki'.

Nagaland hosts 3-day Women's Basketball Tournament

Kohima-based Vision Trinity Club (VTC) organized a three-day women's basketball tournament on Thursday at Loyola Higher Secondary School in Jakhama, Nagaland.

The theme of this year's women's basketball tournament is "Start Unknown, Finish Unforgettable". It is the fifth season of this memorable tournament which will feature seven teams, including Shillong's Touchline Basketball Academy (TBA), All Black, TMB, Loyola, Aces, Orca, and Japfu Christian College (JCC).
