The Week That Was: Indian Women Empowerment News Overview (24 - 29 April)

Indian women are excelling in fields like STEM. They are the founders of exceptional companies that are well-known both domestically and abroad. By overcoming barriers and stereotypes, they are achieving their goals. They are demonstrating their abilities in every field, including athletics, politics, space exploration, and entertainment.

'So Am I' (SAI) & FICCI FLO Collaborate to Empower Underprivileged Women

“So Am I” (SAI), a foundation under its Hunger-Free Odisha Initiative signed an MoU with the FICCI FLO Bhubaneswar with the aim to eradicate hunger from across the state.

Headquartered in Delhi, FLO is the women’s wing of the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). The Bhubaneswar chapter of FLO (17th chapter) was launched in April of 2020.

Badminton Asia Championships 2023: PV Sindhu & HS Prannoy to lead Team India

The Asian Badminton Championships will be the new focus after the busy European schedule on the BWF tour. The continental championship is scheduled to start in Dubai on April 25. The competition will feature top badminton players like Jonathan Christie, Anthony Ginting, Lee Zii Jia, Akane Yamaguchi, and An Se Young. Indian top players PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy are ranked eighth in the women's and male's singles divisions respectively.

E-Vehicle Shuttle Service for Girls to be launched soon in Punjab, says CM

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has kicked off a first-of-its-kind programme to directly communicate with the youth.

He interacted with students at Government College for Girls during the programme and highlighted the young nature of India and its population.

During the programme, he announced that all-women police stations will soon be launched in all districts. He also stated that the government would soon launch an exclusively electric vehicle shuttle service for girls in Patiala, Ludhiana and Amritsar. CM Mann noted that this was a step forward towards ensuring the best public transport for girls in these cities.

Leadership Initiative for Visually Challenged Women Professionals taken by IIM Ahmedabad

The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) is a premier global management institute that started an initiative named One-Of-Its-Kind for visually challenged women professionals. The programme was developed by Professor Rajesh Chandwani, an IIMA faculty member and the Dr Lal PathLabs Chair in Healthcare at IIMA. The initiative aims at providing knowledge and skills to the participants to prepare them for leadership activities.

UP Board Results 2023: Girls top the list in both 10th and 12th std

Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha also known as UP Board announced the results of both Intermediate (12th) and High School (10th) on Tuesday in Prayagraj.

The percentage of students who pass their 10th is 89.78 percent whereas 75.52 percent of students passed their 12th board exams. This year, there was a decrease of 9.81 percentage points in the passing rate for the intermediate exams as in the previous year the pass percentage for intermediate was 85.33 percent. In addition to that, the pass percentage of 10th board exams has increased by 1.6 percentage points, the previous year it was 88.18 percent.

India defeats Nepal in Women's Blind Cricket Match

Simu Das and Phula Saren each scored an unbeaten half-century as India defeated Nepal by nine wickets at the Bilateral Series for the Blind at 1-1. It was the second match of the Indian Blind Women’s Cricket team.

The opening match was won by the team Nepal on Tuesday. To compete in the series against Nepal, for the first time Indian women's team has been formed.

First Indian female Rafale pilot to participate in Exercise Orion in France

The first female pilot of the Indian Air Force (IAF) to fly the Rafale combat aircraft, Squadron Leader Shivangi Singh will take part in the ongoing multinational Exercise Orion in France. According to a report, Squadron Leader Shivangi Singh is in France to participate in the exercise, where for the first time India has sent its Rafale aircraft outside the nation.

Mirabai Chanu to lead team India at Asian Weightlifting Championship 2023

Mirabai Chanu will be leading the Indian team at the coming event of the Asian Weightlifting Championship 2023. In her most recent competition at the World Weightlifting Championships held in Columbia in December, she was placed second in the women's 49kg category. Due to her shoulder and back injuries, she took a five-month rehabilitation program at NIS Patiala. Mirabai will continue her competitions in the 49kg category.

The largest aluminium producer in India, Vedanta Aluminium, announces the addition of 100 new members to its Agnivahini firefighting squad in advance of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
