This is the last weekly collection for the month of August. This past week, a lot of events related to women's empowerment took place. In addition to many other activities, there were workshops, collaborations, fundraising, and reservations for women. Vi announced 40,000 job openings in Gujarat in order to increase the number of working women in the workforce. WE-HUB also announced a partnership with Truecaller to foster female entrepreneurship in Telangana. Ernst & Young also announced the promotion of Nidhi Jain to the position of global talent leader for EY client technology. We have covered a number of other stories concerning the empowerment of women in addition to these. Vi To Provide 40,000 Job Opportunities In Gujarat; To Bring More Working Women In The Economy
Vi, one of India’s leading telecom operator has announced that it looks to create around 40,000 job opportunities in Gujarat region, in partnership with job search platform Apna. These new job openings will come in the last three months and provide employment opportunities to local Indian youth, said the company.
To facilitate the same, Vi Jobs has integrated ‘Apna’, a job searching platform on the Vi App. This feature will offer free priority access to Vi customers and ensure that Vi users’ resumes appear in top searches. In this way Vi users will receive higher visibility to recruiters. It could also double the chances of landing job interviews.
Over the last three months more than 12,000 employers uploaded varied job vacancies within Gujarat. People looking for employment in Gujarat have benefited from the Vi- Apna partnership by applying for hyper-local jobs of their choice.
WE-HUB and Truecaller Sign a MoU to Accelerate Women Entrepreneurship in Telangana
Truecaller, a leading global communications platform and WE-HUB, Government of Telangana's first and only state-led incubator to foster and promote women entrepreneurship, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote women-led start-ups across Telangana. This is another step by Truecaller to increase participation of women entrepreneurs in the digital space. The MoU was signed between Ms. Deepthi Ravula, CEO of WE-HUB & Ms. Pragya Misra, Director of Public Affairs at Truecaller, in the presence of Mr. JayeshRanjan, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Government of Telangana, IT E&C department.
As a part of the association, Truecaller will extend its Software Development Kit (SDK) to start-ups to improve their user funnel and drive growth with mobile number verification. The SDK is designed to help developers build world-class verification infrastructure at lightning speed and has helped multiple organizations drive and scale their businesses.
Ernst & Young Promotes Nidhi Jain as the Global Talent Leader, EY Client Technology
One of the Big Four accounting firms, Ernst & Young (EY) has promoted Nidhi Jain as the global talent leader for EY Client Technology.
Nidhi is a seasoned HR leader with 20 years in diverse areas of human resources across sectors. In her previous role she was the director and head of corporate HR at Ernst & Young with India leadership to define and deploy the company’s people strategy for over 26k people across all businesses (advisory, technology consulting, tax, assurance, strategy and transactions) of EY.
GOOD UNIVERSE, Organisation Working for Women Sexual & Reproductive Health receives a Grant of Rs. 25 lakhs
CIE-IIIT Hyderabad, PRIF (Pernod Ricard India Foundation) awards a grant of Rs. 25 lakhs to GOOD UNIVERSE, an organisation that promotes women's sexual and reproductive health as well as the effects of climate change on women's health.
The funding was given to Rangareddy, Sangareddy, and Hyderabad districts' project E3 for female sanitation workers. The organisation seeks to make a difference in the lives of the group of women who are most at risk, the female sanitation workers. Through the project, Good Universe will equip the female sanitation workers with the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to live a healthy and respectable life.
The WE Incubation Program run by CIE-IIIT Hyderabad, one of India's largest and oldest deep-tech academic incubators, in conjunction with financial partner Pernod Ricard India Foundation (PRIF), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pernod Ricard India, made this funding possible.
Tamil Nadu Government Publishes Glossary on How to Treat LGBTQ People
The Madras High Court recommended that the Tamil Nadu government create a glossary to explain how to refer to and characterise people who identify as the third gender.
The glossary was issued in the Tamil Nadu government gazette of the Social Welfare and Women Empowerment department on August 20 of this year, the Additional Advocate-General informed Justice N Ananth Venkatesh.
He also provided a copy to the judge and argued that once the glossary was published in the official gazette, the terminology stated in it would have legal standing, and any venue that addresses the LGBTQIA+ community must only refer to them using the terms that have been mentioned.
IIM Collaborates with Karnataka Government to help SC-ST Women Graduates Build Entrepreneurship Skills
In collaboration with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore, the Department of Social Welfare and the Department of Scheduled Tribes Welfare of the Government of Karnataka started a training programme to assist SC/ST women graduates in enhancing their entrepreneurial skills.
Professor G Shainesh gave an overview of the executive education programmes at IIM Bangalore after Professor Rishikesha T Krishnan and Minister Kota Shrinivas Poojary exchanged an MoU to this effect.
30 Percent Quota for Women from Uttarakhand in Civil Services: Court
Women with state-resident domiciles are guaranteed a 30% reservation in state public services, the Uttarakhand High Court declared on Wednesday while suspending a 2006 ruling.
These instructions were given during a hearing of a petition brought by more than a dozen female candidates from outside the state who fall under the unreserved category by a bench consisting of Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice RC Khulbe.
According to the appeal, which was cited by the news agency, these female candidates were not permitted to show up for the state civil services main examination despite exceeding the cut-off established for domicile women of the state in the preliminary test held on April 3 of this year.
Amazon's Delivery Service Partner Commissions First All-Women Station in Northeast India
Amazon India announced the opening of the region's first all-female delivery facility in Mizoram, which would be run by its Delivery Service Partner (DSP). The recently opened station is located near Champhai, not far from the border between India and Myanmar. The station is run by Christina Rindiki, a businesswoman who used Amazon's DSP programme to launch a last-mile delivery business named Servico. Customers in nearby communities like Kanan, Kahrawt, Venglai, Vengthlang, Vengsang, and Bethel, among others, would benefit from the delivery of Amazon deliveries via this station.
In addition to allowing Amazon India to expand its client base even further, the opening of this extra delivery station in the region's north-east opens up new career prospects for Delivery Service Partners and the colleagues they hire.
