ELECRAMA 2023: 2nd Edition of 'Women in Power' Begins with an Astounding Response from Global Leaders

Women empowerment dominated Day 2 of ELECRAMA 2023, the world’s largest electrical show of the Indian Electrical & Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (IEEMA), as the second edition of 'Women in Power' - a special initiative aimed at celebrating women in the power segment - got off to a spectacular start at the India Expo Mart, Greater Noida on 19th February.

This year's Women in Power featured a series of engrossing and inspiring conversations from the leading ladies of the power sector across various domains including the likes of Ms. Lakshmi Singh, Police Commissioner, Gautam Budh Nagar, Ms. Charu Mathur, Director General, IEEMA, Aarya Satyanarayan Director of Venson Electric Private Limited and Chairperson Women in Power Committee of IEEMA, Renuka Gera Director (Industrial Systems and Products) Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL and several other dignitaries.

Special FD rates will empower Women says PM Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present at the Economic Times Global Business Summit conference where he spoke about several measures his government has taken for the upliftment of women in society which includes special interest rates on fixed deposits.

While addressing the conference, PM replied to a suggestion made by the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of the Times Group, Mr. Samir Jain, and said that in this year's Union Budget, a very important decision has been made specifically for women. They will be provided with a guaranteed special interest rate if they make a fixed deposit in a bank for two years. He further said that it will be a commendable step.

The Book "How Women Work" examines the causes behind Asian Women's Achievement

"How Women Work," a forthcoming book, examines working women via a pan-Asian lens, seeing them in countries including China, India, Singapore, the Philippines, and Thailand.

The book, published by author Aarti Kelshikar, strives to deepen and enrich understanding of women leadership in one of the world's most dynamic regions through insights from both female and male leaders. The date of release is set for February 25.

"I developed this book to offer an Asian viewpoint on women's leadership and achievement in Asia, which I felt was an important topic that needed to be researched and highlighted.

The UN selects Afshan Khan as coordinator for the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement

Afshan Khan, an Indo-Canadian, has been selected as the movement's coordinator. The Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement is a group of 65 countries and four Indian states that uses innovative methods and instruments to eliminate all forms of malnutrition by 2030.

Afshan will manage the network of SUN Government Focal Points, the Movement's stakeholders, and its funders in her new role as director of the SUN Movement Secretariat, according to a UN press release.

American Express Promotes and Recognises Indian Women Artists in the Marketplace

American Express announced that, in collaboration with the non-profit organisation Dastkar, it is assisting nine Indian states' worth of craftswomen in achieving economic empowerment through market visibility, recognition, and revenue.

The programme "Backing Women Artisans" by American Express and Dastkar includes the project, which aims to strengthen the financial resiliency of women-owned small enterprises affected by the Covid-19 outbreak. According to a news release, the programme has already improved the lives of almost 14,000 craftswomen.

50 Women Officers to head Army units in advanced zones

Around 50 of these women officers will lead units in operational areas, with forward locations, in the strategically important Northern and Eastern Commands, which are in charge of policing India's borders with China. This is the Indian Army's first time assigning women officers to command roles outside the medical stream.

The change occurs a month after the army held a special selection board to elevate 108 female officers to the level of select-grade colonel to achieve gender parity, give them leadership positions in certain branches, and give them new, arduous identities. The board evaluated 244 female lieutenant colonels in total to fill the 108 openings.

Contribution of the Female-led Startups to the Funding Pool incresed in 2022 : Study

According to a new survey, businesses with female founders were able to account for a greater share of the total funding in value terms last year compared to 2021 as a result of women-led entrepreneurship growing popularity in India.

While investment raised by women-led companies stayed at a comparable level in terms of value, at roughly $3.9 billion over both years, these businesses made up almost 11% of the total funds raised in 2022 vs 8% in 2021, a new analysis from market intelligence platform Tracxn revealed.
