Women are Becoming more Empowered in India, Says President Kovind
President Ram Nath Kovind stated that the top three girls in the civil services examinations and three female toppers at IIM Jammu showed that India is heading toward greater women empowerment and women-led empowerment. He added as he handed medals to IIM toppers Sonali (gold), Shraddha Shukla (silver), and Raafeeq Dawara (bronze) at the fifth annual convocation of IIM Jammu, “The future of our country depends on good education of our young population.”
He said, “The National Education Policy seeks to position India as a ‘Knowledge Hub’ in today’s knowledge economy. It seeks to make our youth equipped for the world of the 21st century while preserving our ancient values, which remain relevant even today. For India to become a global knowledge hub, our institutes of learning have to be globally comparable.”
Ernakulam District Panchayat Launches a Series of Apparel-Making to Employ Women
Ernakulam district panchayat is launching a series of apparel-making units in order to provide jobs for women's groups. The first of these units, dubbed 'Bhoomika,' was launched in Kunnukara panchayat on Monday, according to Ullas Thomas, district panchayat president. He went on to say that the creation of the first apparel unit, which employed five women, was aided by a subsidy provided by the district panchayat to help women find productive employment.
The Kunnukara unit secured a loan of 3 lakh from the Union Bank of India, according to sources at the Ernakulam District Industries Centre. The district panchayat is supporting the project with funding from the People's Plan, and an 85 percent subsidy was granted for its implementation.
Google Launches Accelerator for Women-Led Startups in India
In India, Google has launched its first accelerator programme for women-led businesses. Its mission is to assist female-led entrepreneurs in scaling by connecting them with the proper mentors and a network of other startups, as well as assisting them in raising funding and hiring the best tech talent.
Every year, Google plans to pick 40 startups, divide them into two cohorts, and mentor each cohort for three months. The programme is open to startups that have raised a seed to series A round of funding and include a woman on the founding team.
“There’s a large women population with the ambition to truly build and design and influence society, but they’re not getting access to capital,” said Aditya Swamy, head of Google Play & Google for Startups.
Only 6% of the billions of dollars raised by Indian entrepreneurs went to women-led firms, according to Swamy. Only 1.5 percent of the funding was given to startups led solely by women.
LinkedIn & UN Women Partners to Create Jobs for Women in India
LinkedIn announced a partnership with UN Women on Wednesday to advance women's economic empowerment in Asia Pacific, starting with India.
LinkedIn said in a statement that it will invest Rs 3.88 crore in a three-year regional partnership with the UN entity dedicated to gender equality.
The LINK Women Project will begin with a 15-month pilot in Maharashtra, with job fairs, mentoring sessions, and peer-to-peer networks, to cultivate the digital, soft, and employability skills of 2,000 women and present them with a range of career-building opportunities.
Women who have completed their higher education are eligible to participate in the project, which will run from July 2022 to October 2023.
1,000 Women make History by Wearing Sarees to Ladies' Day at Ascot
On Thursday, more than a thousand ladies, largely of Indian descent, made history at Royal Ascot when they all showed up dressed in sarees, some of which were made by a lowly "Kantha" artisan from West Bengal named Rupa Khatun, who had never heard of Queen Elizabeth II, least alone Royal Ascot.
Men wear morning suits and top hats to the famed racing meeting, which the royal family arrives in horse-drawn carriages. Women wear spectacular headwear.
However, Kolkata-born doctor Dipti Jain, who now lives in the United Kingdom, came up with the notion of a mass of ladies wearing sarees to Ascot to show their pride in their ancestry and appreciate the work of Indian weavers.
The majority of the visitors were from the United Kingdom, while some came from other nations, notably India.
Landvision of Hyderabad Establishes the LVE Foundation to Support Women's and Girl Child Education
In Hyderabad, women's empowerment and girl child education are gaining traction. Landvision, a renowned real estate firm, established the Land Vision Eshwaramma Foundation as part of its CSR drive to engage in a variety of humanitarian initiatives ranging from empowering women and girls to supporting old age homes and giving jobs for youths, among other things.
The Landvision real estate group unveiled the logo for the LVE Foundation on Wednesday, where the company's owners pledged 2% of profits to be invested as a CSR fund to support various humanitarian activities in Hyderabad.
According to the LVE Foundation, the goal is to facilitate self-sufficiency training for women, support girl child education by providing scholarships for primary and higher education, build old age homes and shelters for homeless people, and provide employment to youths by conducting education camps, knowledge seminars, and interview sessions, among other things.
