Australia was presented on January 29, 2025, after winning the prestigious 10-team competition with the ICC Women's Championship trophy, that offered a pathway to the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025. Team Captain Alyssa Healy took the trophy on the behalf of International Cricket Council by Mike Baird, the Cricket Australia Chair and ICC Director.
ICC (International Cricket Council) was founded in 1909, catering in the Spectator Sports industry while having headquarters in Dubai. The council specialises in Sports Administration and Event management.
In addition, Australia have now secured championship’s all 3 editions after winning, which was instituted in 2014 with an intent towards growing the game of women while being instrumental in ensuring more tours of women’s cricket over the past 10 years.
For the 1st two times, Meg Lanning lifted the trophy when it played from 2014-16 and 2017-20 that featured a total of 8 teams i.e., Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies. Later in the third edition, Bangladesh and Ireland were included from 2022-2025.
“I would like to congratulate Australia for winning the ICC Women's Championship once again. They have been very consistent over the years and set really high standards in women's cricket. It is also heartening to see so many good performances from other teams during the course of the championship. The points position highlights the competitive nature of the ICC Women's Championship and the growth of the women's game, which is a key focus area for us,” ICC Chair Jay Shah stated.
Adding to the statement, Alyssa said, “We are pumped up about winning the ICC Women's Championship. It was a cool cycle, being able to play the teams we did. It was hotly contested and went down the wire, so it was exciting to win in the end. We had a good couple of performances to get over the line and hopefully it's good vibes for the next cycle as well.”
