Mumbai Indians secured their spot in the TATA Women's Premier League 2025 final with a 47-run win against Gujarat Giants during the Eliminator. The team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, aims to win two WPL titles and will face Delhi Capitals in a similar rematch to the 2023 final. The finals are scheduled to be held on Saturday, March 15th at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai from 7:30 pm onwards.
MI's dominance was highlighted by their impressive bowling and fielding display. MI led the Eliminator with a 213/4 team total, led by Natalie Sciver Brunt (77 off 41) and Hayley Matthews (77 off 50). Player-of-the-Match Hayley Matthews and Purple Cap holder Amelia Kerr contributed to a perfect bowling and fielding display by dismissing GG for 166.
Gujarat Giants put Mumbai Indians to bat first after winning the toss. MI openers Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews started on a good note, but GG's Danielle Gibson struck a second delivery dismissing Yastika. Hayley and Natalie Sciver-Brunt combined to score three boundaries off Gibson's over. They continued to score runs, with Matthews reaching her third fifty of the season off 36 deliveries. The home side set up a strong lead with a 123-run partnership. However, a strong partnership was broken by Kashvee Gautam dismissing Hayley. MI skipper Harmanpreet Kaur joined Sciver-Brunt contributed to MI's victory, putting on 39 runs off 16 balls. Kaur's 36(12) runs included four sixes, making MI 213/4 in 20 overs.
Hayley Matthews made a crucial catch to dismiss Beth Mooney in the first over of GG's chase, and after Harleen Deol was run-out, she cleaned up Ashleigh Gardner for 8(4). GG's Phoebe Litchfield and Danielle Gibson rebuilt, but another run-out led to another setback. However, Bharti Fulmali (30 off 20) and Simran Shaikh (17 off 8) raised hopes for GG but MI's strong bowling lineup dismissed them, restricting Gujarat Giants to 166.
