
TATA WPL 2025: Delhi Capitals dominance over Gujarat Giants, secure a Six-wicket Win

Delhi Capitals secured a commanding six-wicket victory over Gujarat Giants in Match 10, securing their top spot in the TATA WPL 2025 Points Table. The Meg Lanning-led team, comprising Marizanne Kapp and Shikha Pandey, dominated the match, securing GG's crucial wickets. Shafali Verma (44 off 27) and Jess Jonassen (61* off 32) led a clinical chase, earning Jess the Player of the Match award.
Gujarat Giants started the first innings with their bat, however, openers Beth Mooney and Harleen Deol were dismissed early. Meanwhile, Phoebe Litchfield, skipper Ash Gardner, and, Kashvee Gautam also could not make up for the innings as DC bowlers dominated the field. Gujarat Giants were struggling at 31/4 at the end of powerplay. Deandra Dottin fought back with her trademark power-hitting, but Annabel Sutherland's boundary was dismissed. GG slumped to 61/6 after 11 overs. Bharti Fulmali and Tanuja Kanwar resurged, launching a counterattack in the 15th over. They set a record-breaking 51-run stand, but a mix-up led to Kanwar's run-out. Fulmali finished on a high with an unbeaten 40 off 29 balls. GG posted 127/9 in 20 overs including a boundary in the last ball.
Chasing 128, DC batters stood strong, however, captain Meg Lanning was dismissed by Kashvee Gautam (3 off 13). The partnership of Shafali Verma and Jess Jonassen. Shafali took on Priya Mishra, launching her for two sixes, but faced a lbw by Ash Gardner. Jonassen reached her maiden WPL fifty, and GG fought back with two stunning catches of Jemimah Rodrigues and Annabel Sutherland. Jonassen remained unbeaten, leading DC home in just 15.1 overs, but the match was finished by Marizanne Kapp (9 off 8) hitting a boundary.
