UP Warriorz registered their third win in WPL 2024 as they defeated Delhi Capitals who are on top of the points table. UPW went in to bat first and put up a soft target of 139. The beginning of the second half was in DC’s favor and it looked like the score would be achieved with ease. Captain Meg Lanning also scored a brilliant half-century. However, after the score reached 93/2, the dominoes for DC started to fall. DC’s lofty batting order collapsed as they lost eight wickets for 44 runs. UPW’s Deepti Sharma scored brilliantly while also being the top scorer for UPW owing to a beautiful half-century. The match came to an end with DC losing by 1 run.
Since the match was played on the occasion of International Women’s Day, fans and players of both teams joined together to stand for one cause – to spread the message of #SHEBELIEVESWEBELIEVE. The gesture aimed to highlight women’s empowerment and the importance of self-belief in achieving one’s dreams.
Captains from both sides, Meg Lanning and Alyssa Healy, came together to hold up a banner saying #SHEBELIEVESWEBELIEVE at the coin toss.
Both teams took a lap of the ground at the end of the game holding a #SHEBELIEVESWEBELIEVE banner.
