TATA WPL 2024: Gujarat Giants defeat UP Warriorz by 8-Run

The Gujarat Giants secured an eight-run victory against UP Warriorz in Match 18 of the TATA Women's Premier League (TATA WPL) 2024 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. So far, the much-hyped tournament of the season has witnessed some thrilling matches, teams winning with a nail-biting margin, players scoring phenomenal runs, etc. as the tournament has come to its crucial points where, the two table-toppers, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals have already qualified for the playoffs and in the last two matches, next the final team with highest net run rate will get a pass for the eliminator.
Gujarat Giants won the toss and batted against UP Warriorz. Laura Wolvaardt led the powerplay, using field restrictions and gaps to smash 43 off 30. Captain Beth Mooney contributed the highest 74* runs off 52 balls for GG without losing her wicket. Both the players showcased a strong performance that is a vital point for their victorious win. GG smashed 152/8 in 20 overs.
During the second innings, despite Deepti Sharma's 88* off 60, UPW struggled to reach a target of 153, losing skipper Alyssa Healy and Chamari Athapaththu in the opening over. Powerplay issues continued, with Kiran Navgire and Grace Harris losing wickets.
GG player Shabnam Shakil grabbed 3 crucial wickets of UPW in just 11 runs. For her match-winning three-wicket haul, she receives the Player of the Match.
