Tata WPL 2023: Opening, Schedule, Time; Everything you must Know!

The biggest tournament of 2023 is all set to start tomorrow 4 March and the world will witness its finals on March 26. It will be the first ever Premier League to be played by our best women cricket players. Even before the inauguration of the tournament, Tata WPL has generated more than hundreds of millions of dollars. This event is truly going to be a game-changing moment in the history of women in sports.
This event has been planned and processed for the past few years and finally it is being executed by the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI). Renowned female cricket players from all around the world have been selected to compete in this mega tournament. It will be a five-team tournament with 20 league matches leading to the semi-finals on March 24 and finals on March 26.
The auction for Women's Premier League 2023 was held on February 23 and the title rights have been purchased by TATA which is a multinational conglomerate group which is owned by Tata Sons Pvt. Limited. Five distinctive franchises are owned by IPL teams and other businesses. The highest amount paid to a player was Rs. 3.4 crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). They bought Smriti Mandhana for their team, she will also lead the team of RCB in WPL.

The inaugural session and the season’s first match will be held at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. The session will start at 5:30 p.m. during which Bollywood stars Kiara Advani and Kriti Sanon will perform. Punjabi Canadian singer AP Dhillon will also present a live performance at the inauguration to cheer up the players. The first match will be played between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants. The official rights to live stream the match have been given to Jio Cinema app and Television partner Sports 18 Network. For the live spectators, tickets for the tournament have already been sold, for women’s audience, it is free of cost in accordance to enhance female viewership and participation in sports.
The next match will be held at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on 5 March. It will be a doubleheader day where Royal Challengers Bangalore will compete against Delhi Capitals in the first half from 3:30 p.m. The next half of the match will be against UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants at the DY Patil Stadium from 7:30 p.m. onwards.
Both famous stadiums will host 11 matches each during the tournament. The season’s semi-finals and finals will be held at the DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium respectively.
