Priyanka Tyagi, a woman officer who served as an assistant commandant (general duty) in the Indian Coast Guard, filed a petition at the time of her release from the service on 31 December 2023 to which the Supreme Court has now reinstated her, marking a significant step forward. After the officer had been released, she went to the court asking for restoration. The Indian Coast Guard has been ordered by the honorable court to note "the march of time" with regard to women being permanently commissioned in any of the services including the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

The woman short-service commission officer who was discharged from service must be reinstated by the force, as ordered by the court. She also requested the court for gender parity at her workplace which has been fulfilled by this decision as it acts as a barrier to gender disparity in armed forces. Priyanka Tyagi acquires an exceptional career graph with a record of 3,700 flying hours outperforming her male colleagues. Due to her determination and phenomenal performance, her seniors suggested her absorption into the force.

In February 2020, the Indian Supreme Court approved women as permanent officers, promoting gender parity in specialty and service conditions. this ruling reflects the court's commitment to promoting gender equality and progress.
