Union minister Smriti Irani urged for increased investments in women-led businesses, citing India's success and numerous female innovators in science and technology, highlighting their potential for job creation and economic growth. She praised the important role that women-owned small businesses play all over the nation and stated that there is potential to grow these companies by utilizing their success stories.
"Women make up a large majority in many sectors, such as textiles and agriculture-related businesses," she stated during a CII session held together with the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2024. She continued "India has shown the world why it makes for an intelligent case to invest in small businesses led by women."
The concerning number of gender disparity issues in the Indian workforce has not been ignored by the G20 presidency.
Before the current government came into rule, gender was bound to depend upon the actions of civil society. It says a lot about our commitment that Prime Minister Narendra Modi brought gender issues to the forefront and told economies around the world that they are not only effectively addressed but that policy also needs to flow in that direction, she concludes.
