Six women officers (WOs) passed the prestigious Defence Services Staff Course (DSSC) / Defence Services Technical Staff Course (DSTSC) Exam for the first time.
Out of the six, four female officers will study for a year alongside their male counterparts from all three services at the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington.
Training and orientation in operational, military intelligence, operational logistics, and administrative components of staff appointments will be provided to the female officers. The famous Staff Course offers consideration for leadership posts sufficient weight.
The two female officers that remain are both shortlisted for the Administration & Logistics Management Course (ALMC)/Intelligence Staff Course, with one being on the reserve list for the Defense Services Technical Staff Course (ISC).
The entrance exam for the Defense Services Staff Course and Defence Services Technical Staff Course is taken by more than 1500 Indian Army personnel. 22 female Army officers who have received permanent commissions in the aforementioned arms and services (Army Service Corps, Army Air Defence, Army Ordnance Corps, Corps of Signals, Corps of Intelligence, Corps of Engineers, and Corps of EME) took the exam this year for the first time.
Officers who pass the entrance exam are nominated for admission to the course based on their merits, which also take into account their service history and conduct.
One of the four women officers chosen for DSSC, Wellington is the spouse of an officer who has passed the exam as well, making them the first Army pair to take the course at Wellington together.
This significant accomplishment demonstrates the military's shift toward gender equality and women's empowerment.
