Seema Malhotra, the Shadow Minister for Business for Labour aims stronger trade ties between Britain and India during a visit to Tamil Nadu and Kerala this month. Before the G20 Summit in India, Seema, who represents Feltham and Heston in London visited both the states.

The Labour government seeks a diplomatic relationship with India, according to party leader Sir Keir Starmer.

Seema met with the diplomats, visited businesses, colleges and universities and learned about the state and the national priorities for the economy, trade and business.

The Indian Business Network, which was established a few years back supports connections with diaspora businesses throughout the UK and the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu organised meetings.

In order to encourage young women from rural families to pursue their college education, Seema spoke to 300 students at the Lok Ikeda women's college in Tamil Nadu. In addition to this, she also organised the UK-India Friendship Meet which was hosted by Nawab Mohammad Abdul Ali at the Amir Mahal Palace.

Senior business delegates from various industries, ambassadors from almost ten embassies, politicians, educationalists, healthcare and technical experts were all present at the event.

New strategic partnerships for global security, climate security and economic security will be the major focus of the Labour government working with India. Building new advancements in the Tamil Nadu medical sector to life sciences clusters in the UK like Cambridge or the northeast of England. Trade links between Indian regions and UK regions and nations should be evident.

She further emphasized the substantial economic contribution of Indian companies operating in the UK. 954 Indian companies with a combined annual revenue of £50.5 billion were identified by Grant Thornton's annual India Meets Britain Tracker this year.

To foster business and industrial growth in the state of Tamil Nadu and enhance cooperation with British companies operating there, the UK India Business Council and the Tamil Nadu government signed a contract in 2021.
