The second edition of the SARAS Aajeevika Mela, an 11-day vibrant event that honors the determination and creativity of rural women entrepreneurs, was recently opened by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo. This exhibition, which is hosted by the Department of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj's Jammu & Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM), gives rural women a chance to show off their skills and sell their goods to actual consumers. The purpose of the event, which took place on February 12, 2024, was to encourage self-reliance among female rural entrepreneurs. The SARAS Aajeevika Mela showcases more than 220 rural women from 15 states, creating a vibrant mosaic of Pan Indian culture.
Visit 60 diverse stalls to see magnificently produced handloom and handicraft items like textiles, ceramics, metalwork, woodwork, and paintings. 40 of the stalls were from outside the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir's cultural history has been celebrated through traditional music and dance events.
The event was enhanced with traditional dishes from other states and authentic cuisines from Jammu & Kashmir. Members of the SHG, who receive support from the JKRLM, took part as well, improving their marketing skills and financial security. In keeping with their mission to promote sustainable practices, the organizers have been advocating for the use of paper packaging and cloth bags as alternatives to plastic.
