Sandvik Coromant & LPF support Female Engineers

In order to support aspiring female engineers, Sandvik Coromant India, a top authority on metal cutting and machine tools, collaborated with the Lila Poonawala Foundation to host a special event in Pune on 30 October 2023. For 27 years, the Lila Poonawala Foundation has been a ray of hope and support, committed to empowering young Indian women via education and scholarships that foster skill development.
21 female engineering students of the foundation, were invited to Sandvik Coromant India for an immersive discovery experience. Using educational films about the business's procedures, Ajrel Shepherd, Vice President of Round Tools Production in Pune, conducted a discussion on industry trends and the changing role of women in engineering.
Sarika Ramteke, Pune's customized product manager, led another energizing session in which she shared inspirational films and incidents to encourage upcoming female engineers. Additionally, the students got to see the shop floor and got a firsthand look at what it's like to be an engineer at Sandvik Coromant. Guided tours were given by Mayur Wagh, Rahul Kashikar, Makarand Pataskar, Nitin Kand, and Shashikant Gaikwad.
An informal lunch was also held with senior management personnel, including Sunil Joshi, President of Sales, Sonali Mulay, Director and Head of Tools Production, and Vignesh Iyer and Roshni Acharya from the CSR team. This created a laid-back environment for conversations and additional knowledge.
Sandvik Coromant in Pune has implemented measures to promote diversity, including GPS-tracked bus services, security escorts, digital check-ins, and an onsite daycare center for working parents.
Sandvik Coromant India's MD and CFO, Kiran Acharya, emphasized the company's commitment to fostering a diverse workforce, including hosting Lila Poonawalla Foundation students to showcase the opportunities available for women in manufacturing.
Sandvik Coromant, part of the global industrial engineering group Sandvik, aims to achieve one-third of female managers by 2030, focusing on sustainable business and innovative tooling solutions.
