Samsung Electronics has promoted Lee Young-hee as its first woman executive to the role of president of global marketing for its mobile business. This is the first time that the global electronics giant has named a woman in its top leadership post.
Lee Young-hee will lead the role of president of the Global Marketing Center for Samsung's Device eXperience (DX) division that oversees its mobile business.
She is the first woman president at Samsung, South Korea’s largest conglomerate, to come from outside the founding family. Before her it was only Lee Boo-jin, (the first daughter of late Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Kun-hee) to serve as the president and chief executive of Hotel Shilla, a Samsung affiliate company.
Lee Young-hee has been with Samsung since 2007. She was promoted to the role of vice president in 2012. The executive has earlier worked for L'Oreal. Lee Young-hee has been credited with successfully promoting the image and brand of Samsung's Galaxy mobile phones.
Lee Young-hee is among seven new presidents who have been appointed owing to a small-scale corporate reshuffle. The change has been a first for Samsung after the group's de facto leader Lee Jae-yong was appointed as the executive chairman in October.
Samsung hopes this will strengthen your brand and this move will act as an opportunity for other talented women employees to strive to climb career ladders.
