According to a report presented by Foundit Insights Tracker, workplaces in India are becoming more inclusive and have experienced a 26 per cent increase in the diversity of the hiring process over past years. Across the Indian businesses, there was an increase in the emphasis on hiring candidates from underrepresented groups, including females, LGBTQA+, and people with disabilities with multinational corporations accounting for 62 per cent of the hiring and Indian-origin companies on-boarding the remaining candidates.
The report also states that 40 per cent of the opportunities are in the information technology industry which is also followed by the recruitment and staffing industry. This industry has provided 19 per cent of opportunities for the underrepresented groups.
The CEO of Foundit, Sekhar Garisa, this emphasis on inclusivity is creating a more diverse workforce and supporting working environments for those people who lack behind.
The shortage of qualified candidates is a major factor in the rise of hiring people from underrepresented communities. India has a 21 per cent talent gap presently and it is expected to be increased by 3.5 times in the coming 5 years.
Despite of being more qualified, Indian women do not participate in the workforce. Only 29 per cent of individuals choose to work in the STEM field and a part of them stay employed. There is a major downfall in the employment of individuals and after the Covid pandemic, companies need to increase their workforce by tapping into talent pools.
