redBus is introducing new features in South India in order to improve the travel experience and safety for women travelers. These include women-only seats, enhanced safety measures, a dedicated helpline, improved booking experiences, and awareness campaigns. The aim is to make bus travel safer and more appealing for women in South India, encouraging them to choose bus travel frequently for their commuting needs.
The bus service agency, redBus is expanding its focus on South India with new apps and tailored booking preferences for women, who make up over 30 per cent of its customers. The company plans to provide an interface in Telugu to target customers in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, following a 20 per cent year-on-year growth in bus bookings in the first quarter. The agency states that South India, along with Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, is the largest market for State Road Transport corporations, driving volume growth due to a decline in seat prices.
redBus CEO, Prakash Sangam said that MakeMyTrip has introduced features to attract more women travelers, with 32 per cent of customers on redBus being women. This growth is faster than male passengers, with a higher percentage of women travelers in the East and South. He added that the revenue growth in the bus segment ranges between 20 per cent and 25 per cent, driven by redBus growth due to digitization, online bookings, and a shift from traditional offline modes.
