During the ongoing 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,' Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu suggested that the government honour all 15 women who contributed to the creation of the Indian Constitution.
There were 15 women among the 389 members of the Constituent Assembly. These women members were Begum Aizaz Rasul, Durgabai Deshmukh, Ammu Swaminathan, Hansa Jivraj Mehta, Purnima Banerjee, Kamla Chaudhary, Leela Roy, Dakshayani Velayudhan, Malati Choudhury, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, Sarojini Naidu, Annie Mascarene, Renuka Ray, Vijalakshami Pandit and Sucheta Kriplani.
Naidu made the remark after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member Rakesh Singh addressed the subject during the Zero Hour, stating that 15 women who contributed to the creation of the Indian Constitution should be honoured as the country celebrates 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.'
Naidu stated, “it is a very good matter raised by the member. The government should consider to honour the 15 women during the celebration of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ as they played a key role in making the Indian Constitution”. Pralhad Joshi, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, acknowledged the matter and stated that the “government will consider it.”
