Heavy rain stopped the first T20 International between the Indian women’s cricket team and Australia on Thursday.

Rain disrupted the proceedings when India was 131/4 in 15.2 overs, leading to the cancellation of the match.

Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh were not out on 49 and 17 respectively. From the abandoned match both sides got one point each.

Hannah Darlington and Tahlia McGrath were making their T20I debuts for Australia. India’s Renuka Singh made a debut while Yastika Bhatia made a maiden T20I appearance.

“Time for some T20 cricket! Meg has won an unprecedented fifth toss in a row and we’re having a bowl first at Metricon Stadium #AUSvIND,” posted AusWomenCricket on Twitter.

“Congratulations to Yastika Bhatia for making her T20I debut today and Renuka Singh is playing her maiden International game for #TeamIndia#AUSvIND,” posted BCCIWomen on Twitter.

Earlier, India drew the rain-affected day/night Test against Australia following a 1-2 loss in the ODI series. The second T20 International is scheduled to be held on Saturday at the same venue.

The match started with Australia’s captain Meg Lanning winning the toss. She opted to bowl in the first women’s T20 International match against India.
