The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) would give a new platform for the services of the women Self-Help Groups (SGC) in the 23 integrated villages.
The municipal government has opted to enlist the help of these groups for a variety of services. Members will be able to take advantage of the PMC's different schemes. Dnyaneshwar Molak, additional commissioner of PMC said, “We are collecting the records of these groups from the gram panchayats. Details about the registration and other documents would be checked”.
Around 1.25 lakh self-help groups (SHGs) employ 16 lakh women in the state. They're all employed by the Mahila Arthik Vikas Mahamandal (MAVIM), which is run and supervised by the state government's department of women and child development. In the Pune district, there are around 3,500 SHGs and 2,500 in the PMC. There are 300 such groups in the integrated villages.
The PMC's urban community section, according to officials, develops activities for these organisations such as platforms to present their products and exhibitions, as well as dedicated shops for the same.
