Scientists are warning that the third wave of Covid-19 will have the greatest impact on children.
Amidst the warning, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that priority would be given to inoculating women with children under the age of 12.
She also stated that the state would begin immunising at least four lakh people on a daily basis.
"We are giving importance to the third wave. The second wave has increased the number of infections. We have decided to prioritize inoculating the mothers of children aged zero to 12 years old, so that the child does not get the infection from the mother," she said.
To date at least two crore people have been immunized against covid-19 in West Bengal, Ms. Banerjee said.
"We have decided to start vaccinating at least four lakh people from tomorrow," the Chief Minister said.
The West Bengal government has decided to provide at least 26,000 Covid-19 beds for women in both public and private medical facilities.
Furthermore, approximately 10,000 general beds have been reserved for mild and moderate pediatric cases ranging in age from 90 days to 12 years, with 20% of special newborn care unit (SNCU) beds reserved for Covid positive patients ranging in age from 1 day to 90 days.
The total deaths rose to 14,87,363 after 1,925 new cases of infection were reported in the state, according to the report.
In West Bengal, 2,017 recoveries have been recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the discharge rate to 97.32 percent.
