President Murmu to visit Fiji, New Zealand & Timor-Leste under Act East Policy

India's President Droupadi Murmu is set to visit Fiji, New Zealand, and Timor-Leste for a six-day visit beginning 5 August 2024 in order to strengthen bilateral ties and explore new cooperation areas. The visit will focus on trade, investment, education, and cultural exchange, highlighting India's commitment to fostering strong international relationships and contributing to global peace and prosperity.
The visit was announced by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The President will visit Fiji for the first time, holding meetings with President Katonivere and Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. On her visit to the island nation, MEA mentions "This visit reflects India's continued commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations with Fiji. On her second leg visit, President Murmu will visit New Zealand on August 7 to 9 at the invitation of Dame Cindy Kiro, Governor General of New Zealand." India's President will hold a bilateral meeting with Governor General Kiro and meet Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. She will address an education conference and further interaction with the Indian community residing there.
She will further visit the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste on August 10 at the invitation of President Jose Ramos-Horta. The visit will be the first ever Head of State visit from India to Timor-Leste, highlighting India's strong focus on the Act East Policy, which was announced in 2014.
