President Murmu inaugurates 5th Meghalaya Games at Tura

Today, on January 15, 2024, the ruling President of India, Draupadi Murmu, is all set to inaugurate the 5th Meghalaya Games at Tura's PA Sangma Stadium. President Murmu was greeted warmly by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as soon as she landed at Guwahati Airport.
President Murmu's three-day tour of the region started with this visit. The President has a number of important events lined up during her visit. Her participation in the Karbi Youth Festival's Golden Jubilee celebrations, where she will be the chief guest alongside other state dignitaries, is among the highlights.
Along with a number of other dignitaries, Meghalaya Governor Phagu Chouhan and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma will be joining her during the inauguration ceremony. Around 300 artists will be showcasing traditional Garo, Jaintia, and Khasi dances along with songs that capture the vibrant culture of Meghalaya will be performed.
3,000 athletes from across the state have already headed to Tura to take part in the athletic extravaganza, showcasing the diverse nature of the Meghalaya Games. The 20 game categories at the event will appeal to both sports fans and cultural enthusiasts. For the first time, boxing matches are being held in Tura, which is promoting the expansion and diversity of sports in the area.
After the inauguration of the sports extravaganza, she will move forward to address the Self Help Group members at Tura's Baljek Airport and essentially lay the cornerstone for the upcoming Integrated Administration Complex. The upgraded Rongjeng Mangsang Adokgre Road and Mairang Ranigodown Azra Road will be virtually inaugurated by her on January 16 at a gathering in Mawphlang.
She will also lay the foundation for the Shillong Peak Ropeway and the tourist accommodations in the villages of Kongthong, Mawlyngot, and Kudengrim. Lastly, she will attend the Karbi Youth Festival's golden jubilee celebrations on January 17 in Taralangso, Diphu, Assam.
