Pragati Scholarship Degree and Diploma Programmes includes 480 Women for the First Time

For the first time, 480 brilliant females from J&K have been included into Pragati Scholarship degree and diploma programmes. The Saksham Scheme for Persons with Disabilities has also awarded nine scholarships to J&K.

Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, spoke with beneficiaries of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Pragati and Saksham Scholarship Schemes via virtual mode on Wednesday.

The Lt Governor described women as crucial agents of change while meeting with girl students selected under the Pragati initiative.

“J&K government is creating an ideal, gender-inclusive ecosystem where they have better access to education and economic growth putting them at the heart of our development initiatives and making those on the margins aware of their rights”, observed the Lt Governor.

"Social and economic equality for women is integral to achieve rapid development. Women empowerment and their equal presence in the tech sector are important to build a strong community, a resilient state, and a stronger country," said the Lt Governor.

He said, "is necessary that our girls are well-equipped with necessary knowledge, skills, and self[1]confidence and are included at all levels of governance. The AICTE’s scholarship program and UT Government’s initiatives like Hausla, Tejaswini, Umeed, LG Super 75, Parvaz, Mumkin are some of the major steps taken in the direction of women empowerment & bridging the gender gap."

Sheetal Devi, one of the first ten beneficiaries of the Mumkin scheme, was singled out by the Lt Governor for special mention. Sheetal Devi was one of the first ten beneficiaries of the Mumkin scheme, which provided youth with a mini commercial vehicle with no margin money in exchange for permanent employment. Around 4 lakh other women have been socially and economically empowered as a result of various programmes that have connected them.

The Lt Governor emphasised the importance of policy execution and the necessity to focus on skill training and re-skilling of females so that they can participate equally in future economic prospects.

The Lt Governor further stated that Rs 200 crores have been granted to institutions for skill development so that young professionals can be taught in cutting-edge Industry 4.0 technologies like as artificial intelligence, internet of things, 3D technology, data-analysis, robotics, and other areas.

Addressing the students, the Lt Governor encouraged them to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to offer their technical experience to national development initiatives and work together to address modern-day difficulties. On August 15, the Lt Governor met with members of youth groups from various districts, who expressed their enthusiasm for becoming a part of the social revolution.
