State Minister Paul Lyngdoh announced on June 7 that Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) Chairperson Phidalia Toi has been dismissed for violating rules.
According to the rules, Phidalia was required at least three commission meetings, but she however missed four of them due to her alleged participation in the recent election rally of the NPP legislator from Jowai Wailadmiki Shylla.
Minister Paul also stated that no new appointments have been made so far due to the need of being careful and selecting the correct incumbent by the government so that these situations may not occur in the future.
There are some standards set to appoint a new member in this position which need to be discussed with the Chief Minister as this is a very important body. He further added that the appointment of the new Chairperson will be selected based on merit and quality.
According to Paul, the other members would stay on until their tenure ends.
