Oxfam Virtual Trailwalker Challenge to Support Women & Girls

The pandemic worsened the situation for women and girls who were already socially and economically marginalised.
Domestic violence, school disruptions, job loss, forced marriage, cyber violence, and women and girl trafficking have all grown drastically in the last two years, according to reports.
Oxfam India has been attempting to mend some of these fault lines across the pandemic through education and livelihood missions with its next and largest fundraising campaign, the Oxfam Virtual Trailwalker Challenge.
During the COVID-19 epidemic, the challenge also emphasises the activities of civil society groups in constructively assisting and uplifting marginalised and poorer elements of society.
Over the course of ten days, participants can walk a distance of 100 kilometres, 50 kilometres, or 25 kilometres.
In addition to all other programmes, the Oxfam Trailwalker activity has aided and shown to be useful in mobilising resources to strive toward gender and economic equality.
Over 3,600 motivated walkers travelled virtually in solidarity with the people hit worst by the epidemic in 2021, assisting Oxfam in its efforts to rebuild the public healthcare system.
Over 31,000 ASHA workers have received COVID-19 training, media kits, and expertise as a result of the organization's efforts.
In addition to these measures, their work in Lakhimpur Kheri has helped local women farmers overcome gender bias by teaching them organic farming and assisting them in gaining proper recognition as farmers.
Oxfam India also taught mushroom farming to women from Borbhatta village in Kalahandi, allowing them to earn additional money, promote sustainable development, and address the problem of rural poverty among women.
