The Sports Authority of India has sanctioned a total of Rs 75 lakh for the Khelo India National Ranking Women Archery Tournament, which will be held in six stages. The first part of the event will be held on April 12 and 13 at the Tata Archery Academy in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.
The tournament will be held in the senior, junior, and cadet categories, including recurve and compound events, and will follow World Archery Rules. The competition is being organised by the Archery Association of India (AAI) in partnership with the Jharkhand Archery Association and TATA Steel.
Based on the recently concluded National Championships, the top 32 Recurve and Compound archers in Senior, Junior, and Cadet categories have been selected to compete in the tournament.
In addition, archers who achieved the Minimum Qualification Score (MQS) in any of the International Championships/Nationals/Selection Trials/Khelo India tournaments/State Championships/State Selection Trials in 2021-2022 have been selected.
Every other month, the six Women's National Ranking events will be held, with the final phase set for December 2022. The best 16 archers will be ranked based on their cumulative points from the five phases in order to compete in the final phase in December, where they will be awarded cash prizes totaling Rs 37.5 lakh.
The National Ranking Women Archery Tournament is another project of Khelo India's Sports for Women component, which is working to increase female participation in a variety of sports contests. Not only are donations given, but assistance is also given in the effective organisation and execution of the events. The U-17 Khelo India Football League and the Khelo India Women's Hockey League (Under 21) were held in three phases in New Delhi and Lucknow, respectively, in the past.
In line with Women Empowerment, the Khelo India National Ranking Women Archery Tournament will now provide additional competition and exposure at the domestic level for second, third, and fourth lines of archers.
This will also help kids strengthen their mental toughness and competitiveness by exposing them to matches.
