NCRTC Organizes Community Awareness Programme for Women in Ghaziabad

According to a representative, "The NCRTC conducted a workshop to disseminate awareness about numerous women-friendly measures in RRTS and how India's first regional rail will assist empower them through greater access and increased possibilities, in addition to safe travel."
Ghaziabad Despite the rapid advancement of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) recently carried out a community awareness programme in Muradnagar, Ghaziabad, with a particular emphasis on empowering women through transportation and mobility.
The workshop was run last Friday as part of the Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific (JFPR) project, according to NCRTC officials.
ADB is providing financial support for the 82 km long Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS project, which intends to provide high-speed train connections. In August 2020, the bank authorised a $1 billion loan for RRTS.
With a focus on the role of RRTS in empowering women, the programme for women, girls, and students—including those from rural areas—was designed. In addition to promoting safe travel, the NCRTC held a session to raise awareness of the various women-friendly provisions in RRTS. According to Puneet Vats, chief public relations officer, "India's first regional rail will help empower women through improved access and increased opportunities, aside from safe travel."
A separate session on "apps to use in distress situations" was also held by officials. During the course of the programme, additional workshops on the advantages of economic empowerment, microfinancing options, and the advantages of access to healthcare were held.
To enhance seamless passenger movement while assuring safe and dependable transportation, especially for female passengers, the NCRTC is concentrating on multi-modal integration of RRTS stations with other transport modes.
Along the lines of commuter-focused features, the NCRTC has also suggested adding a separate coach for female passengers to each RRTS train. The agency has also suggested installing 2,000 CCTV cameras along the entire 82 kilometre network to provide extensive surveillance.
The project, which would serve 800,000 daily passengers, is anticipated to begin operations in March 2025.
By March of next year, a 17 km length in Ghaziabad is scheduled to be operational. The 17 kilometre stretch's test run is anticipated to start in December.
