Sharad Pawar, the leader of the NCP, stated on Thursday that the Union Government should first implement reservations for women in the Lok Sabha and state Legislative Assemblies before discussing the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code.
At a press conference, Sharad also claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become restless following the gathering of the opposition parties in Patna. He announced that the next meeting would most probably be held on July 13 and 14 in Bengaluru. Regarding the UCC debate, he mentioned that the NCP would take a position after considering the requests and suggestions from various communities.
In addition to this, he also said that women should be granted the demand of reservation in the Lok Sabha and Assemblies.
In responding to the statement made by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis that Sharad knew about the plans made by BJP to form government in Maharashtra, he stated that Devendra should concentrate on improving the security of women in the state rather than making such remarks.
